Greetings to you during the summer!! Just a short update on what's going on with our Habitat affiliate.
Construction . . . Despite these 100+ degree days, the Building Committee continues its periodic work on the work sites in an effort to get the lots ready to begin construction in September. Slabs have been poured - our "thanks" to Abel Gamez and his crew; Bill Jackson is keeping the tractor primed as he continues to move dirt; and periodically the Green Team has met at 6:30 a.m. and worked for a few hours in the morning to clear lots for building in January 2012.
Administration . . . Summertime is always a busy time for those volunteers involved with the administration of the affiliate. In June, the Board of Directors approved the recommendations of the Family Selection Committee for 5 new partner families - you'll meet them in September; the Family Support Committee is preparing for its first meeting in mid-July with the new partner families, as well as starting the Dave Ramsey classes with the current and newly selected partner families; the Lunch Committee is busy scheduling lunch donations for the 2011/2012 building days; the Newsletter crew is planning for its next edition; and the Audit Committee is working with the auditors during our annual audit of the financial records since the fiscal year ended on June 30. If you, or someone you know, are interested in getting involved with the administration-side of our Habitat affiliate, visit our website for details about the various committees.
Volunteers . . . Habitat was informed that one of our long-time volunteers, Tom Christopherson (see photo of Tom below), was hospitalized last week. He has had brain seizures and tests are being run to find the cause so proper treatment can be given. Tom is in Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Jones Tower, 3rd Floor, Room 349, 817.250.2349. Please keep Tom, Marcia, his wife, and their family in your prayers.
Expect a blog post in August as the Building Committee announces its annual summer meeting that will meet prior to our first work day in September.
